HE COULD HAVE BEEN GREAT! HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN AMAZING! BUT NOOOO THEY MADE HIM A JOKE INSTEAD! but hey haha Mettaton is a star and cares about looks quite a bit, so at least I can appreciate this form of him physically for his character design? XD and being an artist, looks can be quite endearing to draw hahaha

There's no fight but he's really cool looking and thus super fun to draw. Infact I probably put way too much effort into this picture than I really needed too lol. he took 6 hours, that's longer than most my speedpaints lol. I love doing fan art of pixle games with sprites, because you can make your own interpretation of the character without it being "Wrong" if that makes sense. I mean I do that with anything anyways, but when it's a pixle, you can take so much liberty with it and still make it "Accurate" if that makes sense? so putting in all these details for Neo was SUPER FUN. even if it meant more time and effort lol
Mettaton NEO isn't a joke, there's a lot of sense behind it.
After Undyne was murdered, Alphys, in a fit of grief and rage, created Mettaton's NEO form, and spent all her effort into making him as deadly as possible. Through her blind rage, she forgot his defense. NEO can't attack you because at this point, you are no longer human, you're a demon (Alphys specifically made him a 'human-killing robot'). He starts a 'battle' with you because he needs to sacrifice himself in order to let Alphys guide the other Hotland monsters to safety.
I honestly think Alphys is the most tragic character in the Genocide route for this reason. First, the love of her life is murdered, and then she has to allow her best friend to essentially kill himself so she can guide the others to safety - Hotland is relying on her alone now. And worse, Mettaton's death was partially her fault, so she has to live with that as well.
